The Republic in the News: Orlando Sentinel cover story + FOX 35 in primetime

This has been an exciting week for spreading the word about The Republic!

Following the launch of our new web site and our tickets going on sale, today our big article hit the Orlando Sentinel – on the front page!

Featured in the article are Sarah, Phil, and Nathanael, along with a few of our performers pictured in the paper and on the Sentinel web site, along with some great video of Sarah and Phil further discussing The Republic.

Sarah and I also ended up on FOX 35 news last night to talk about the project:

Tickets to The Republic now on sale! Plus our all-new web site launches

Tickets are now on sale for The Republic!

Today we launched a fully redesigned web site at, offering a closer look at some of our characters as well as a full list of our incredibly talented performers.

In addition, full dates and details for all 11 weeks of performances are now available, from our “beta test” period with the Orlando Fringe Festival to the full performance run.

Tickets are available for all performances here. Tell your friends, relatives, and everyone you meet!

Across the 11 week run, Thursday evenings will have one performance at 8pm and Friday and Saturday evenings will have two performances at 7:30pm and 10pm. The experience lasts roughly 90 minutes.

The new web site will continue to evolve over the next few weeks and throughout our performance run, so keep checking back regularly to dive deeper into the world of The Republic.

But most importantly, grab tickets while you can! With just 30 players allowed into each experience, there’s a limited number of spaces available.

Team building through terror at Legends – A Haunting at Old Town

This week, The Republic creator Sarah Elger had a wonderfully horrible idea.

In lieu of regular rehearsal, our performers were instructed by Phil and Allie to meet in a seemingly random parking lot in Kissimmee. They were told to not ask questions and not speak upon arrival. From there, they were led into a nearby empty field, bound, blindfolded, and berated.

After some exercises intended to help them get to know each other and each other’s characters even better, the blindfolds and zip ties were removed and they were escorted across the street, still in silence.

They were led to Legends – A Haunting at Old Town, a year-round haunted house we rented out for the evening, unbeknownst to them. Inside, The Republic creator Sarah Elger and I waited under the pretense that we had gone missing. It was their job to find us…

The Legends team did a fantastic job with our makeup, making Sarah look like she’d been beaten and bruised as my kidnapping victim, after I’d transformed into one of their “twitchlings.” There were three separate areas in the haunt at which Sarah and I interacted with our performers. As she screamed out for help, only a small number came to her rescue while the rest ran by scared.

We all gathered afterward at a nearby Old Town bar for some drinks, a bit of karaoke, and plenty of socializing. And yes, Sarah and I stayed in our makeup throughout the rest of the night.

The team building evening was a success and everyone had a blast.

Dances and kidnappings filled our festive fundraising party

It’s a big week for The Republic. We met our Kickstarter goal (thank you again!) and are heading into a weekend filled with building as many walls as we can to continue to transform our performance space from an empty warehouse into 18,000 square feet of fully themed environments.

As we ready ourselves for another weekend of excitement, we are looking back at last weekend’s fun-filled fundraising party, which offered the world a first look at several of our characters. Those who were there had a blast interacting with our performers. Though they weren’t in costume, they were most definitely in character the entire time.

For those who couldn’t make it out, today I offer you a glimpse at a few highlights from the party, including a particularly passionate and manic tango performed by Jana Bernard and Steven Kabick, as the Medusa and Minotaur, as well as a kidnapping at the party featuring our CEO (played by Kathryn Fabbroni), Oracle (played by Chris Brown), and Silver (played by Michael Corinella):

Now, the exact moments featured during the party will not be part of our production, but do give a sense of the type of interactions that players will enjoy while experiencing The Republic.

Other performers seen in the video and photos above include Steven Finkle as Daedalus, Emmi Green as a Bronze, Kim Lopez as a Slave, Jim Inzirillo and Clare Ghezzi as Surgeon, Justin Jones as HR Boss #1, and Gus Rodriguez as HR Boss #2. We announced these characters during the party, though have withheld details about who they are really are – on purpose. You’ll have to come out to experience The Republic beginning in May to meet them yourself.

Though… we are planning a few more surprise appearances between now and then.

Over the next couple days, our engineer Phil Burgos will be leading a team to make that happen. Check out all these 2×4’s he and The Republic creator Sarah Elger loaded up today:
